Sarcoplasmatic and myofibrillar protein changes caused by acute heat stress in broiler chicken Scientia Agricola
Santos,Carolina de Castro; Delgado,Eduardo Francisquine; Menten,José Fernando Machado; Pedreira,Aparecida Carla de Moura; Castillo,Carmen Josefina Contreras; Mourão,Gérson Barreto; Brossi,Camila; Silva,Iran José Oliveira da.
Acute heat stress (AHS) modifies the structure of myofibrils affecting functional properties of meat, mainly the water holding capacity. This experiment aimed to identify changes in proteolysis and migration between the myofibrillar and sarcoplasmatic fractions due to pre-slaughter AHS. Myofibrillar fragmentation index (MFI), SDS-PAGE, western blot of vinculin (WB) and shear force (SF) were determined. Six hundred broilers (Gallus gallus) were slaughtered in three different days (ST). In each ST, groups of ten animals were placed in transport crates and submitted to AHS (35ºC, 75 - 85% RH) for 2 hours. Simultaneously, the non-stressed broilers (NS) were kept in thermoneutral environment (22ºC, 83 ± 6.6% RH) within the crates in the same density. After...

Starter dietary lysine level and strain cross effects on performance and carcass traits of broiler females Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Corzo,A; Kidd,MT.
Dietary lysine has been shown to impact the performance of broilers, particularly with aspect of breast meat accretion and yield. There have been studies that suggest that early dietary lysine has an effect on breast meat yield in male broilers. A study was designed to evaluate starter dietary lysine (1.20 vs 1.35% of diet as achieved by the addition of L-lysine at the expense of a filler) effect on performance of female broilers from three different genetic strain crosses, and monitor subsequent effects at 41 and 56 d of age. Body weight and feed consumption were higher for birds consuming the high lysine starter diet, but feed conversions were similar when compared to the low lysine diet. Body weight and feed conversion were similar among strains....

Ruy,Deborah Clea; Nones,Kátia; Baron,Erica Elias; Ledur,Mônica Corrêa; Melo,Cláudio Manoel Rodrigues de; Ambo,Marcel; Campos,Raquel de Lello Rocha; Coutinho,Luiz Lehmann.
Selective genotyping for a certain trait in individuals with extreme phenotypes contributes sufficient information to determine linkage between molecular markers and quantitative trait loci (QTL). In this experiment an F2 population, developed by crossing males from a broiler line with females from a layer line, was employed to detect QTL on chromosomes 3 and 5. Twenty-eight performance and carcass traits were measured in F2 offspring, and phenotypic correlations between traits were calculated. Body weight at 42 days (BW42) presented the greatest positive correlations with most other traits, with correlation between body weights at 35 and 41 days, weight gain between birth and 35, 41 and 42 days, as well as weights of carcass and some body parts superior...

The Effect of Jatropha Curcas Seed Meal on Growth Performance and Internal Organs Development and Lesions in Broiler Chickens Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Barros,CR; Rodrigues,MAM; Nunes,FM; Kasuya,MCM; Luz,JMR da; Alves,A; Ferreira,LMM; Pinheiro,V; Mourão,JL.
ABSTRACT The meal of Jatropha curcas (JCM) seed is a by-product of the biofuel industry and may potentially to be used as animal feed. However, its toxicity has prevented its utilization in animal nutrition mainly due to its high concentration of phorbol esters. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the dietary inclusion of JCM on the growth performance, feed digestibility and internal organs development of broilers. Thirty two 48-d-old Ross 308 broiler chickens housed in 16 pens (2 birds/pen) were used in this study. Birds were randomly allocated to dietary treatments comprising four JCM levels (negative control, 25, 50, or 100 g JCM/kg of diet) for four weeks. Results showed that increasing levels of JCM had a negative impact on broiler...
